The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences/Agriculture Extension & Rural Development at the University of Duhok is hosting a national workshop entitled:

"Process of Developing a Learner-Centered Curriculum"

Between Sunday, March 01st, and March 02nd, 2024.

Starting Time from 9:30 AM  (Local Duhok Time).

The workshop will be held at the Seminar Hall of Agriculture Extension & Rural Development

Justification :

  1. Addressing Evolving Educational Trends: With the landscape of education constantly evolving, it's imperative for universities to adapt their curriculum development processes. A workshop focusing on learner-centered curriculum development enables university staff to stay abreast of these trends and implement best practices.
  2. Enhancing Student Engagement and Retention: A learner-centered approach fosters active participation, critical thinking, and intrinsic motivation among students. By equipping university staff with the knowledge and skills to design such curricula, the workshop directly contributes to enhancing student engagement and retention rates.
  3. Meeting Diverse Learning Needs: Students entering universities today come from increasingly diverse backgrounds with varied learning styles, preferences, and abilities. A learner-centered curriculum accommodates these differences, ensuring that all students have equitable access to educational opportunities. This workshop empowers staff to create inclusive learning environments that cater to diverse needs.
  4. Improving Learning Outcomes: Research consistently demonstrates that learner-centered approaches lead to improved learning outcomes. By centering the curriculum on students' needs, interests, and experiences, educators can facilitate deeper understanding, higher-order thinking skills, and long-term knowledge retention. The workshop provides staff with strategies to design curricula that optimize these outcomes.

Objectives:

  1. Understand the principles of learner-centered curriculum development.
  2. Explore the significance of aligning curriculum with the diverse needs of university students.
  3. Examine the key stages and components of the curriculum development process.
  4. Identify strategies for conducting needs assessments to inform curriculum design.
  5. Learn techniques for incorporating active learning methodologies into curriculum planning.
  6. Discuss approaches to fostering student engagement and autonomy within the curriculum.
  7. Analyze methods for integrating technology and multimedia resources effectively in curriculum design.
