University of Duhok Hosts Workshop on AI Concepts and Principles

A workshop titled "Introduction to AI Concepts and Principles" took place on May 29, 2024, at the University of Duhok’s Student Center in Peshmarga Hall. The event attracted a significant number of the university's academic staff and focused on foundational AI concepts, applications, and ethical considerations.

Dr. Sheheen A. Abdulkareem from the College of Science led the primary session, discussing the basics of AI, its various applications in fields such as architecture, economy, public health, and education, and the ethical use of AI tools in academic research and writing. Dr. Sheheen also emphasized how AI can simulate human intelligence, including key processes like data handling, algorithm development, and model training.

Dr. Ahmad Baheej Yaseen presented "AI in Research and Publication," focusing on the distinctions between general AI and generative AI. He explained the ethical use of AI in academic writing, stressing the importance of human oversight and transparency, and introduced tools like Semantic Scholar and Scite.ai to aid literature reviews.

Dr. Mohammed Aziz Ibrahem, Dean of the College of Science, spoke on "AI in Education: Guide and Impact," showcasing AI-powered personalized learning systems, automated grading, curriculum planning, and virtual assistants. He highlighted emerging applications such as emotional support, immersive learning experiences, and early intervention mechanisms driven by AI technology.

The workshop concluded with a discussion on the benefits and potential consequences of AI in educational institutions. The speakers stressed the importance of ethical considerations, continuous learning, and adaptation by educators to harness AI's full potential. This event underscored AI's transformative impact on various domains and its crucial role in the future of education.
