College of Medicine Receives Top Honor from the Iraqi Higher Education Minister for Granting Full International Accreditation

Today, February 25, 2024, UOD's College of Medicine took part in the honoring ceremonies set in Baghdad for the international recognition of the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges (NCAMC) obtained from World Federation for Medical Education – WFME earlier this month on February 21.

The College of Medicine, represented by the Dean, Dr. Dildar Haji Musa, was honored for obtaining its full accreditation by the NCAMC. The four other medical colleges that obtained the full accreditation are: College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, College of Medicine, University of Al-Kindy, College of Medicine, University of Kufa, College of Medicine, University of Hawler, along with the UOD’s College of Medicine as mentioned. These colleges were honored earlier today by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Iraq, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi in an official ceremony attended by high level academic figures and medical representatives. In addition, a number of medical colleges throughout Iraq obtained the partial accreditation were honored in the ceremonies also.

Also, Dr. Zeki Ali Mohamed, who is an academic member at the College of Medicine at the UOD, was honored personally as a member of the NCAMC for his efforts in achieving this outstanding success.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi showed in his speech during the ceremony that this historical achievement which is the obtaining of international recognition by Iraq is an outstanding and beyond comparison. He also clarified that this recognition indicates the high level of our academic institutions and their remarkable abilities to meet their visions based on global criteria.

In addition, it’s worth mentioning that the Prime Minister of Iraq, his excellency Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, congratulated, in a tweet he posted on his official account, on this significant achievement the NCAMC made after granting the recognition of the WFME. He emphasized on supporting the efforts that enhance the higher education process in Iraq.

The NCAMC is a national foundation established in 2007. This council works to raise the level of medical education in Iraqi medical colleges to be accredited in accordance with Iraqi national standards and in line with regional and international standards, as part of the powers granted to it by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The college’s gain of accreditation indicates that it has met the standards set by the NCAMC.

THE UNIVERSITY OF DUHOK

The University of Duhok (UOD) is a public university in the city of Duhok, which is about 150 km northwest of Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér), the capital of Iraq's Kurdistan Region (KRI).
