The University of Duhok organized a Conference on the development of nursing in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq

College of Nursing in the University of Duhok held a conference on the improvement of the quality of the study programs and the role of nursing in collaboration with Duhok General Health Directorate, the University of Sassari, Vita-Slute san Raffaele University and Aispo: an Italian non-governmental organization.

The conference was attended by Health Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Head of Health Committee of Iraqi Parliament, President of the University of Duhok, Director General of Health in Duhok, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation team, members of parliament, consultants, doctors and the staff members of different governmental and non-governmental institutions. The objectives of this stage of the project is the development of nursing and the introduction of different mechanisms for reform in this sector. 

The conference started with an opening speech by Dr. Afrasiab Musa, Director General of Health in Duhok in which he pointed to the different aspects of this conference and the necessity of establishing an effective modern nursing. 

In his word, Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, UoD President, asserted that “this project perfectly falls within the UoD strategy and vision. The improvement of the quality of education in the UoD and the scientific level of its graduates have always been part of our plan and aspirations. We offer utmost support for the advancement of study programs in the College of Nursing and the success of this project.”  

Following that, the representative of the Aispo presented an online speech and described the aspects and features of the project and this cooperation with all the involved parties.

In his speech, Dr. Saman Barzanji, Health Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, described the plan of reform in the different sectors and especially on the sector of Health. He confirmed that “this project consolidates the reform plan proposed by KRG’s 9th Cabinet and the health sector should be given most extreme attention especially nursing since nurses work closely with patients and their betterness means providing a better service to the society.” 

The Conference, which was held in the Conference Hall in the UoD, comprised 6 panels that discussion the details of the project and the mechanisms of its accomplishment.
