Under the supervision of the deanery office of College of Pharmacy at UoD, a one day workshop entitled: "UV Radiations and The Importance of Sun Screens ", has been  conducted  in the College of pharmacy building  on Thursday, 31 / 3 / 2022,9:30 am,  by:

Aim of the workshop

This workshop aimed to highlight the hazardous effect of UV lights that are prone to get absorbed by our skin. This topic was being neglected by most of our people despite its huge risk to humans. Hence, awareness of the importance of applying sunscreen was the first goal of this workshop.

This workshop was sponsored by URIAGE EAU THERMAL dermatological company and they brought their skin tester camera to determine the skin type of the participants in order to be able to give each one a URIAGE sunscreen that is fitting for their skin type.

It's worthy to mention that the workshop was well organized and prepared with 5^th stage college of pharmacy students also one of them was a speaker.

Workshop agenda:

1. Hind B. Almufty (M.Sc Clinical Pharmacy) presented the introduction and talked about the carcinogenic effects of UV lights and how it causes burning, aging, and many other skin defects.
2. Dina A. Kako (MS.c pharmaceutics) factors affecting the intensity of UV lights and SPF and showed the participants how to select the best SPF when buying a sunscreen from any pharmacy.
3. Mary H. Haido (MS.c pharmacognosy) explained the types of sunscreens and what is the difference between chemical absorbers and physical blockers.
4. Mehvan mohammed (5^th stage pharmacy student) ends up with a conclusion and the sunscreen application criteria.
5. Alhan Matti (BS.c pharmacy) the presenter of URIAGE company explained URIAGE sunscreen products and pointed out the differences between each one of the products.
6. COFEE break.
7. Sunscreen Boothe (testing and applying): At the end of the presentation, there were 2 pharmacists from the company who had made the skin test for the participants by their skin tester camera to see what kind of sunscreen is suitable for their skin.

Outcomes of the Workshop:

By the end of the workshop, the participants understood the importance of sunscreen even for the male gender, they had gotten the wrong idea about the sunscreens for their belief that it’s a type of cosmetics and it is related to females only, and also, they have learned how to select the best sunscreen according to their skin type and when and how to apply it. So eventually everyone got their sunscreen in order to be used for the coming sunny summer days.
