The Second Community Conflict Management Training

The University of Duhok Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies conducted the second workshop on “Community Conflict Management”. The workshop conducted at the Students Center of the University of Duhok on 2nd to 4th August 2022. The workshop, which attended by 20 students and youth from different backgrounds, has been facilitated by Mr. Zeravan Ameen Abdullah, an instructor at the UoD Department of Peace and Human Rights Studies.

The first day of the workshop focused on the concept of conflict; causes of conflict; positions and interests in conflicts; Galtung’s conflict triangle; theory of violence; and conflict tree. During the second day of the workshop the participants were introduced to communication skills; Juhari window; concept of peace; peace mapping; peace tree; and sources and analysis of power. In the third and final day, the participants were trained on do no harm theory; connectors and dividers; community initiatives; social cohesion; and social cohesion initiatives.

The workshop is one of the center activities within the project of “Building Inclusive Communities in Iraq-Rebuilding Trust”, which is being implemented with fund from the Church of Sweden, and in partnership with the Lutheran World Federation-LWF Iraq and Baghdad Women’s Association.
