Recreation and Ecotourism

The Department of Recreation and Ecotourism was established in 2014 due to the need of the region for professionals specialized in the realm of recreation and ecotourism, conducting research and participating in programs that contribute to conserving the environment, promoting ecotourism, and participating in improving the welfare of the people. The academic staff of this department was educated at universities with good educational reputations from different countries, namely, the USA, UK, France Hungary, and Iraq. This diversity of educational background is reflected in the teaching and learning procedures. 

Vision 

Make optimal use of Natural environmental resources of the Kurdistan region that constitute a key element in tourism development, maintaining and conserving such natural resources and biodiversity. Guarantee viable, long-term economic operations by providing socio-economic advantages from Nature-based recreation and tourism to all stakeholders' particularly young people, including stable employment and income-earning opportunities and social services to host communities.

Mission 

The Recreation & Ecotourism department is committed to academic excellence through providing high standard education, research, and dissemination of knowledge about recreation and ecotourism. It endeavors to provide the tourism sector in the Kurdistan region with graduates who have the knowledge, skills, competence, and behavior required to achieve successful engagement in recreation and ecotourism.

The department offers a 4-year B.Sc. program in Recreation and Ecotourism.
