Description

Graduating medical students with efficient and satisfied theoretical and clinical background in all fields of microbiology and parasitology. Number of units for undergraduate third-year students:

 

  • Four hours theory per week in different fields of microbiology 
  • Six hours practical (two hours per group) per week in microbiology.
  • Two hours theory per week in parasitology.
  • Six hours practical (tow hours per group) per week in parasitology.

 

Conducting and supervision of postgraduate studies in microbiology and parasitology:

 

  • One year Diploma degree in microbiology and parasitology including theoretical and practical courses in fields of microbiology and parasitology with clinical dissertation at the end of courses.
  • M.Sc. degree in microbiology and parasitology, include one year time of theoretical and practical courses in fields of microbiology and parasitology followed by another year of clinical thesis on clinical ground.
  • Ph.D. degree in clinical microbiology consist of three years study.

To make the department as one of the credible teaching and research dept. staffed with highly qualified academics and well equipped with advanced technology within the College of Medicine-Duhok University, so to promote health care to community.

 

Mission:

A.   Teaching the  medical students basic and advanced concepts of microbiology (bacteriology, virology, immunology, mycology and parasitology).

B.   Practical training of medical students in specialized laboratory in various fields of microbiology

C.   Enabling the students to recognize the importance of diagnostic microbiology in clinical application

D.   Encourage future interest in research and specialization in infectious diseases and microbiology

E.    Contribute to the professional development and continual education of graduates and future doctors

 

Objectives:

1.     To arrange a curriculum which can meet the needs and requirements of international microbiology standards.

2.     To conduct demonstrations and practical experiments in well equipped and high tech laboratory, to be supervised by qualified taughters.

3.     To provide students with skills in practical and differential diagnosis of infectious diseases.

4.     To encourage students involvement in small research projects in microbiology
