SCIENTIFIC TRIP OF THE FIRST STAGE OF LAW COLLEGE'S STUDENTS TO THE ZIRKA ADULT REHABILITATION DIRECTORATE IN DUHOK

       Students of the first stage - Law Department of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences - University of Duhok on 8/4/2017 had a scientific trip to the Zirka Adult Rehabilitation Directorate in Duhok, with their supervisor Dr. Ari Arif Abdul Aziz, who teaches of criminal law at the college. The purpose of the trip was to inform the students about the Kurdistan rehabilitation institutions, institution's departments, number of convicts, and the nature of the crimes committed by them.

      The objective of the trip was to provide students with factual information about the corporal punishment imposed on criminals in the penal law. The students had been informed of the theoretical aspect of the penalty of each crime. This requires the students to be knowledgeable of the implementation of these legal texts in rehabilitation institutions. The trip helped students to examine the prisoners' rights and their appropriateness to the criminal penal policy which aimed to reform the perpetrators and evaluate their behavior in order to return them back as useful individual to the society after guarantee that they are not going to commit a crime again. As a result, it will achieve the criminal laws' goals in deterrence and reform. Thus, students will see the extent of compatibility of the convicted s' provided rights in Kurdistan s' Adult Reform Directorate with international standards in dealing with persons deprived from their freedom that contained in international documents issued by the United Nations.
